CDT Auditions!

August 18 & 19 @ 6:30PM


***Please come a little early to fill out audition form***



This year we would like for you to come prepared with a monologue and song.
Your monologue should be 1-2mins in length and does not need to be memorized.

Song selection should be from a musical or a Disney show.
2 mins in length, something that will demonstrate your vocal range. 

This allows us to cast you in a part that fits your voice!


For your audition we will request no vocals in the track you bring. 

YouTube is a great source for karaoke backing music!

If you would only like to be part of the choir/ensemble we would love for you to come demonstrate your vocal abilities at the beginning of auditions on August 19th.

Auditions can be intimidating, but each and every person who walks through

that door is a potential solution to one of our problems, and trust me,

all casting directors are rooting for you because of that. 

We want you to do well!

Character list

Alice Garfield- a young, widowed mother of two, determined to make this Christmas special for her children. a woman of great strength, and ultimately great faith (sings solo)


Katie Garfield- Alice’s spunky daughter, secretly decided to help her mother financially in this difficult season

(sings solo)


Mr. Elliott Herzog Jr.-Brassy and blustery, the quintessential over bearing boss. His goal is profit and his method is efficiency at all cost (sings solo)


Dixie Plunket- Herzog’s bookkeeper. She has everything and everybody figured out. Salty and sassy, a formidable woman with a large view of life who always takes things as they come. (sings solo)


Maxwell Q. Sheldon- a slick and self-assured manipulator who will use any means to get ahead. Head sales clerk at Herzog’s (sings solo)


Brother Sam- slightly hapless, Sam is warm and open and genuinely interested in all those about him. His faith and how  he puts it in to action is evident. (sings solo)


Hattie McGee- Proprietor of the news hut, that houses not only newspapers but no end of unique objects that seem to appear at critical times. Eccentric and completely grounded, Hattie uses intuitive wisdom to help things along. (sings solo)


Sgt. Buchanan- An affable police officer and probably too easy going for his chosen profession (May be asked to use an Irish accent)


Mr. Herzog Sr- Jovial and spry, built the building in which Herzog’s Department Store stands, took early retirement to enjoy hobbies (sings solo - May be played as Mrs. Herzog)


Hank- newspaper delivery guy

Hapless Man- a harried Christmas shopper

Frantic Man- a desperate Christmas shopper


Ensemble groups:

Carolers- a small group of  sincere Christmas carolers

Shoppers- an assorted group of Christmas shoppers- sometimes frantic, last -minute shoppers

Employees- group of people who manage the Christmas rush

Newsies- a group of children who sell papers on the streets (ages 8-12)


Audition tips!

Choose your audition pieces wisely. Like your selection! If YOU don’t like it, we can tell! 

We want to see character variation. If you can find three points in your monologue where emotion shifts, and you like it, its probably a good choice.

  Do a well-rehearsed monologue. 

We can tell if it’s been practiced to pieces or only practiced for a day.


  Make bold, interesting, motivated choices. Stretch yourself and take a risk, it will not make you look foolish, rather it will make you look fearless!  

So make bold and interesting choices! Show us your chops! On the flip side, don’t make wild, unmotivated choices, every action should have a motivation behind it.  

Unmotivated screaming, weeping, maniacal laughter, or randomly chosen physicalizations, for example, are not showing you to the best of your ability.  Also, bringing props is unnecessary.

  Face forward so everyone in the room can see you. Speaking to an empty chair stage left or in complete profile stage right. Does not give us much! Please don’t look directly at the auditors. 

It makes us uncomfortable, and that’s the last thing you want. 


We stop thinking about you and your monologue and become fully

absorbed in the fact that you’re staring at us. 

We do not wish to be part of your scene; we want to watch you and take notes. 

Place your mark over the auditors’ heads.


Commitment Level

Mondays & Tuesday evenings,  Saturday morning

Occasional Friday

Won't be called to every rehearsal, only in in scene. 

Ensemble will be Tuesday evenings

 

Last week in November and 1st week in December are mandatory- dress rehearsals

 

 

We do work with conflicts!
